The theme-years in the sphere of culture are approved until the year 2020.
In 2017, the XII Youth Song and Dance Celebration will take place, and therefore the year will be called the Children and Youth Year of Culture. The year will focus on young people as audience as well as creators.
2018 is the year when the Republic of Estonia celebrates its 100th anniversary. The events of the theme-year will also be related to this anniversary. In addition, the European Parliament and the Council of the EU have jointly declared 2018 as the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
In 2019, attention will be focused on the song and dance festival tradition, which is included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, as it will be 150 years since the first song festival was held in Tartu
The year 2020 will turn its face decisively towards the future – that year will be dedicated to digital culture.
The content of the coming theme-years will follow in the due course and related organisations in the corresponding areas will be responsible for the arrangements. Additional information may be requested from the Communication Department of the Ministry of Culture.
