Estonian Presidency conference: “Sport, education, university: joining efforts for athletes´ dual career and active societies”

Estonian Presidency conference: “Sport, education, university: joining efforts for athletes' dual career and active societies” takes place on 21-22 September in Dorpat Conference Centre, Tartu, Estonia.

The conference will give an overview of what has been done in the EU on the topic of athletes’ dual career so far as well as discusses how educational institutions can work together as one support system for athletes. The event is organised as part of 2017 Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

 

 

Dedicated to the official Opening of the European Week of Sport in Tartu, on 23 September as well as to the celebration of the International Day of University sport (IDUS) on 20 September, the conference will focus on the topic of athletes' dual career in sports and their education. The second main theme of the conference focuses on sports and physical activeness.

We will look at what is the cost of physical inactiveness to society and what can be done to raise the levels of physical activity with the help of universities and sports.

The keynote speakers will be Oleg Matytsin, President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and Gerd Kanter, Chair of the Athletes´ Commission of the Estonian Olympic Committee, Olympic champion 2008 and Summer Universiade 2005 winner.

To pinpoint what measures need to be undertaken in this regard, a high-level round table discussion of stakeholder representatives will take place during the conference lead by the European Commission.
